When you’re preparing your holiday menu, don’t you want to have one or two dishes that don’t take a lot of energy to fix but are basically something thrown together quickly so that you can get on to other things? Here’s a very simple vegetable dish that is great for the holidays. It is a take on a very traditional French style green bean casserole. It goes together very quickly and just takes a bit of time in the oven. What you do after that is up to you.

Green Bean Casserole

1 lbs green beans, cleaned and snapped in half
2 large white onions, chopped
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
salt
paprika
butter

2 cups panko
6 Tbs butter

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

In a 13 x 9 baking dish, start by putting down a layer of green beans, a layer of onion, a layer of green pepper, a layer of onion and a layer of green beans. On top of each layer, dot with butter and sprinkle salt and paprika. Bake in the oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Melt the 6 Tbs butter in a sauce pan, then add the panko and toss to thoroughly coat.

Top the green beans with the panko mixture then place under a broiler until the top starts to brown. Serve warm.

The truth of it is that wholesome cooking techniques need to satisfy just THREE basic and simple criteria the food you eat should not have surplus amount of fat and sodium i.e. should not be an excellent source of calories, it should retain the nutrients i.e. it should not be empty calories above all, it should taste good.
