Ms Cocktail and I decided to treat ourselves to something special for our wedding anniversary this year (21 in case anyone is counting). We decided to spend an evening at The Inn at Little Washington. Nestled in the very center of the little town of Washington, VA, the place is an experience like no other.
Your experience starts at the very moment that you arrive at the front door. Your vehicle and luggage head in separate directions as you are politely asked your name. This is the one and only time that will happen during your entire stay. For the rest of your time here, the staff will know your name even if they haven’t personally met you before.
You are immediately whisked off to the bar where a welcoming cocktail is made for you (a champagne cocktail with fresh squeezed passion fruit juice) so that you have something to accompany you on your tour of the public areas. By the time you get to your room, you luggage has preceded you and everything is ready for your arrival.
The next item is afternoon tea in the parlor. This is a nice relaxing way of getting yourself fueled up for the feast being prepared later on. The is a wonderful selection of teas not traditionally available in your local stores including Patrick’s blend (green tea with passion fruit) that Ms Cocktail had and the pu-erh, an ancient Chinese tea which I had.
Along with these tea selections came a selection of snacks: smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, sweet biscuits topped with Virginia ham, small black raspberry tarts filled with lemon curd, maple shortbread, oatmeal currant cookies and a pecan biscuit. Taken together this was a wonderful way to tide ourselves over until dinner later on.
